Linoleum or tile or wood or concrete—how do you decide what flooring to use in your kitchen? While all of these flooring materials have their pros and cons, at Hard Rock, we believe that concrete flooring is the way to go in your kitchen for many reasons. You probably think that concrete is for sidewalks and kids games like sidewalk drawing.
Here are a few pros and cons for concrete flooring that will help you make an informed decision when the time comes to seal the deal.
Pros
Concrete flooring is very sustainable and incredibly low-maintenance. All it needs is a simple mopping with soapy water every now and again. It won’t look like old cement either—we can stain it any color you like with great patterns and textiles. With our acid staining, you can convert your concrete into a floor that looks like tile, but without the wallet-emptying cost. Concrete is also much less expensive than tile or wood or another kitchen flooring alternative, but it can look just as nice. It is paired well with rugs and mats and other decorative fixtures.
Concrete is also very durable and long lasting. It can be expected to last one hundred years or more. Can wood do that? Certainly not. With concrete, one installation is all you need.
Cons
As most of us know, concrete can be cold to the touch. It might not be the most pleasant experience to walk on cold concrete in the middle of the winter. However, it’s not something a little thermostat heat can’t fix. Concrete can also be hard, unlike the spring in wood—making it hard to stand on for long durations of time. But all you need to do is make sure you’re wearing comfortable shoes and your feet should feel fine. Overtime, if the proper maintenance isn’t done, cracks may appear in the surface of your concrete. If your floors are not already stained, stains can appear in kitchen areas. Concrete is porous by nature, so a sealing is advised every two years. If sealing isn’t done, moisture from the kitchen can cause damage.
All in all, concrete floors are easy to care for, especially in a kitchen where food spills happen often and messes are prevalent. They are just as nice looking and can cost half the amount of any other flooring alternative. At Hard Rock, we guarantee we will provide you with the best flooring you can find in Utah.
