Our garages store some of the most important and functional items of our lives. Our cars, our tools, our yard appliances, work benches, sports equipment, and more.
Some garages function as storage zones, hobby areas, or a practice space. And all of our garages deserve a little more love. With some planning and a little elbow grease, you can upgrade your garage to be more functional and attractive.
Not only can upgrading your garage make you enjoy it more, it can also increase the value of your home and increase curb appeal. No more boring garages – just jealous neighbors.
How to Upgrade Your Garage?
There are plenty of garage storage systems and door upgrades to consider if you’re thinking about a major garage overhaul. But today we’re going to talk about two ways to improve the floor of your garage. The standard concrete garage floor is durable and functional, but we can improve it with a little extra work.
Paint
Painting your garage floor gives you an instant pop of color or depth. For a small garage, deep colors can make the space feel bigger and more luxurious. If you use your garage as a workspace, fun and light colors can brighten it up so it doesn’t feel like a garage. You will need to prepare and etch your garage floor, but concrete cleansers and etching agents can be found at your local home improvement store. Then applying paint can change the look of your garage – just be sure to seal it so that it won’t chip or wear off where you park your cars and machines.
Epoxy
For a more committed, showroom look, epoxy is the way to go. The concrete is carefully prepared, much like your prep work to paint the garage floor, but with more diligent effort. Stains are removed, and cracks are sealed. Then layers of epoxy coating are applied to the concrete floor to achieve a desired effect. Speckled floors compliment your beloved vehicles, or marbled looks can quickly make your garage look high-end and luxurious.
Finally, the epoxy is sealed with a shiny gloss that protects your floor against oil spills and also prevents slipping. Epoxy coatings in a garage (or even an unfinished basement concrete floor), increase the value of your home and always catch people’s eye.
Both options are affordable and even possible to DIY, if you have the skill and drive. If you’d like a professional’s speed and touch, call Hard Rock Concrete Coatings.
